| I bought some of your flower carpet ground cover roses this year. They did very well but I need to know if they need to be winterized like a hybrid tea rose or if they will survive on their own, also should I cut them down to ground level before winter. |
| These roses should overwinter successfully if simply mulched with several inches of natural mulch over the root zones. As with any new plant, you should also make sure the soil stays slightly moist up until the ground freezes. These roses do not require the mounding or other special measures used for hybrid teas. If winter damage is severe, these roses should regrow from the roots and bloom just fine. In the spring, trim away any winter damage, if necessary cutting right to the ground. You can also shear or trim them lightly to shape and/or generally tidy them up -- but wait until spring to do it. |
