Jasminum officinale, the common white jasmine, sometimes called Poet's Jasmine, produces an abundance of white star-shaped flowers in the summer which are very fragrant. Right up there with J. officinale is J. polyanthum. This plant blooms in late winter or early spring, producing clusters of highly fragrant flowers which are white inside, tinged with rose outside. If you want fragrance during late winter and early spring, choose Jasminum polyanthum. If you prefer summer splendor, choose Jasminum officinale.
