I have brought in my amaryllis bulbs from outside...now what do I do? |
Amaryllis need to be rested for about eight weeks, after that they can be set into growth again and should bloom. To rest them, allow them to dry out completely and store them in a cool area at about 45 to 55 degrees. Trim away the foliage as it dries and shrivels. After that rest time, water the soil lightly and bring the pot into a bright location. Keep the soil just barely moist until you see active growth. Once the plant is growing, water normally and fertilize occasionally as you would any other houseplant. The bulb will grow and bloom best in a very bright location with average to cool temperatures (about 65 degrees). It should bloom about eight to ten weeks after the end of the rest period. After bloom, trim off the flower stalks and continue to encourage the foliage to grow. The better the foliage growth, the better the next bloom performance will be. Good luck with your bulbs! |
