What size can I expect a Blue Point Juniper to mature to? Nursery people and give varying estimates, from 8 ft x 3 ft to your estimate of 12 ft x 8 ft. This a lot of variance for the same plant. Can you explain? I would like to plant one at the front, left corner of the house, next to the garage which is one floor level. |
Unfortunately, there simply is a certain amount of naturally occurring variation among plants of the same type in terms of mature size. Many factors can affect the mature size ranging from climate and soil to care given during the early production and establishment phases. In addition, some sources will provide a size that is reached within say 5 or 10 years, others will take a longer view. I checked Michael Dirr's well respected "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants" and he indicates that this juniper is "listed at 7 to 8 feet tall but will grow larger" -- I'm sorry it is impossible to be more precise. If height is an issue with this location you might prefer something that is more easily trimmed to size or simply smaller in general. |
