Camellias In The North - Knowledgebase Question

I just bought a small camelia tree from an estate which has greenhouses. Their "camelia room" was quite cool, and did not seem very humid, which surprised me, as I thought camelias needed humidity. Could you advise me on this? Also, what type of fertilization do they need?

Camellias don't like drying winds and hot sun, but don't need excessive humidity. Most do best in partial sun, but some can stand full sun if the root system is protected with a heavy layer of mulch. They like a rich, organic soil that is acidic. Use an acidic fertilizer such as Miracid, or one that is formulated specifically for camellias. Follow package instructions.
