|I need to replace the tree that goes between my front sidewalk and the street. It's been suggested that a silver dollar tree would be a good one to plant. I know nothing about trees, and am wondering if this is a messy tree....does it drop any sap or anything other than leaves in the Fall of the year? Is there another type of tree that you would suggest?
|Eucalyptus cinerea is the silver dollar tree. It has attractive blue-green coin shaped juvenile leaves, which are excellent for cut foliage. It needs full sunshine and is fast-growing to 35 to 40 feet high with equal width.
Given the mature size of this tree, unless you have the space, it may not be the right tree for your front yard. Perhaps a better choice Would be Eriobotrya japonica (loquat), Acacia, Luma or Liquidambar. You can find characteristics and mature sizes of these trees by searching the Monrovia website. Best wishes with your new tree.
