| Purple Hyacinth Bean seeds should be planted in a sunny site, 1-inch deep and 6-inches apart. These are vining plants and should be provided with support on which to climb. The beauty in these plants are the violet blossoms borne on purple stems. The flowers mature into shiny, flat, three-inch pods that hang like purple patent leather ornaments against the dense canopy of deep green leaves. If you allow the plants to sprawl along the ground you'll have a mass of lovely foliage but the seed pods will be hidden as they hang down between the leaves. They can be grown without support, but you'll miss the beautiful contrast between leaves and seed pods. |
