|I cant find "Victory", Pyracatha where I live. I'm in
Zone 7 but have been told it will not winter well. Do you agree?
I don't like the "orange" berries of the other varieties. I want red berries. Any suggestions? I'm anxious to buy and plant this on the west side of my house with a brick wall behind it. We live on Smith Mountain Lake, VA.
Your timely response is appreciated. Thank you so much!
|Victory is rated hardy into zone 7, but if local nurseries are not recommending it then you might want to heed their localized experience -- there are factors that affect winter appearance besides being rated hardy for the zone.
In addition, any time you place an evergreen against a brick wall in an afternoon sun location, you are going to accentuate winter stress on the plant due to the reflected heat. Wind exposure is also a factor, as is reflected heat during summer. So all in all this might not be the best location for that type of plant anyway.
You might want to discuss alternatives with your local nursery personnel and or county extension and see what they might suggest for that location. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
