|Can you grow Balboa Sunset Trumpet Vine in a container for a few seasons?
|In my experience it is possible to grow a trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) in a container for a year or possibly two, however this is a very large vine and so the larger the container, the better. A larger container will also help protect the roots from changing temperatures (both heat and cold) and help to keep the soil more evenly moist. By large, I mean at least a half barrel or bigger. Keep in mind you will need to water it regularly to keep the soil moist (in a mild year you may need to water occasionally late into the fall and winter) and fertilize during the growing season. It is also a good idea to shelter the plant from wind, especially in the winter time. Finally, this type of extended treatment can really be stressful on the plant, so do not be too disappointed if it dwindles away or dies outright.
