|Our planting areas are along the north and south fence. The north side receives 4 - 5 hours direct sunlight in the summer, with the south side getting about 3 hours. We are looking for perennial shrubs and ground cover suggestions. Thanks!|
|In such nice sunny sites, you'll have a rainbow of flower colors to choose from. Flowering shrubs include Abelia, Calluna (Scotch heather), Cistus (rockrose), Fuchsia, Hebe, Jasmine, and Lavandula (Lavender). If you're interested in a cutting garden try these perennials: Potentilla, Salvia, Gladiolus, Iris, Phlox, Veronica, Rudbeckia, Astilbe, and Lily. Some suggestions for groundcovers include Asarum (wild ginger), Duchesnea indica (Indian mock strawberry), Gazania, Houttuynia, Ice plants, Lamium (dead nettle), Osteospermum (trailing African daisy), Phlox subulata (moss pink), and wooly Thyme.
For instant color and coverage, you can interplant annuals.
Enjoy your new flower beds!
