| Hi there, I"m just wondering if I made a mistake planting my bougainvillea out in my front yard. I live in the northeast and am wonderingif I'm going to have to dig it up and bring it in each fall. If so could you recomend a flowering tree simalar to it that can be planted outside year round? |
| Bougainvillea is not able to survive the cold weather in your area, so it is usually grown as a container plant and brought indoors into a conservatory, greenhouse or very bright room each fall. This tropical vine can also be used as an annual, with the intention of replacing it each spring. Do be very careful to protect it on cold nights until temperatures are reliably in the 50's at a minimum. Unfortunately, I can't think of any plant that would look like that and be hardy in your area. You might try a shrub rose or climbing rose in that location, or perhaps a clematis to provide the same burst of color but they will not bloom all summer. |
