| I recently purchased a plant from a local nursery that was distributed by Monrovia. There was no plant identification tag on it and it was the only one left. The people assisting me at the nursery incorrectly identified it as being a flax plant. But,after extensive research I have come to the conclusion that this is wrong. The plant that I purchased stands about two feet tall and has long leggy branches that tend to grow in some what of a weeping style. The leaves are miniature versions of pine needles and are bright green on the new growth and turn to a dark blue green on the old. The old growth is a nice brown with delicate bark, while the new growth has a red tint to it and is smooth. There were sparse pink flowers, that resembled tiny bells, on the plant when I purchased it. I desperately need to know what this plant is because I would like to train it as a bonsai. | Based upon the leaf and flower shape, I'd put your plant in the heather family. You might want to do a web search under 'Erica' - there are many varieties, from tree to shrub, with many different growing patterns. Perhaps you can find pictures of heather that will match what you've purchased. Best wishes with your research. |
