Do mulberry trees need another mulberry tree near it in order for it to produce fruit?

Your question is a simple one but the answer is a bit muddy: yes and no. Mulberry flowers are either male or female. Some varieties have both male and female flowers on the same tree; other varieties have male trees and female trees, so both are needed to produce flowers. You can examine the flowers to find out which tree(s) you have. The male flowers have four stamens; the female flowers have a two-armed structure in the center. I hope this helps. Incidentally, if you like the trees but not the fruit, you could plant the variety Morus alba 'Kingan', which does not produce fruit.
