Lilacs grow best in full sunshine, in average but slightly alkaline soil. Most lilacs need a pronounced winter chill in order to bloom well. In your mild climate gardening zone, choose one of the Descanso Hybrid Lilacs. These are bred especially for warm winter regions and will bloom reliably there. It can take a lilac several years to become established and begin to bloom, but once it does, it's spectacular!
