| This hydrangea, sometimes also called Pia, is rated hardy to USDA zone 6 with some reports of success in warmer parts of zone 5. In a very sheltered location well out of the wind, you might have luck with it using a heavy winter mulch and perhaps even a burlap wrap. (Burlap allows the plant to breathe, do not use plastic which causes excessive heat buildup in sunny conditions.) It blooms on wood from the previous year, so any winter damage to the stems will cause a reduction in flowering. In a rough winter, it may die back all the way to the ground, however it should regrow into a nice mound of foliage during the season. Good luck with your hydrangeas! |
