| Depending on the width of the space, you might try some upright growing arborvitae or junipers (both evergreen) or, if you would prefer a deciduous plant, compact burning bushes or even the traditional clipped privet hedge. These would all grow best in full sun. If the fence can be extended to a slightly taller height (or a pergola added alongside the pool) you could consider growing a vine on it to soften the look; fall blooming clematis or Virginia creeper would both climb a chain link fence and cover it nicely all summer. The clematis has fragrant white flowers in the fall and the Virginia creeper turns a brilliant red in the autumn. Your local nurseries or county extension may have additional suggestions based on a more local knowledge of the growing conditions and soil in your particular yard but I hope this gives you some ideas. |
