I own a fatsia japonica and want to either split it or take a cutting. Please advise how I can do this.

Tip cuttings taken in June and supplied with bottom heat should root fairly easily for you. If the plant has suckered from the roots, you could also try to separate one off for a new plant, simply dig it out being careful to avoid distrurbing the mother plant as best as you can. (Fill in the resulting hole with compost or good soil.) Plant the separated piece in well prepared and loosened soil at the same depth as it grew before and keep it well watered until it re-establishes. A good time to do this would be early spring.
