The blooms on my Lilium Hubrid 'Sunray' are falling off. Do I need to cut it back to get it to bloom again? |
Lily bulb blooms last only a short time and unfortunately the plants do not rebloom during the season, they only bloom once a year. Cool calm weather and evenly moist but not soggy soil are best (without thunder storms, hail, wind or heat waves) and help the flowers last longer but this is part of the charm and frustration of growing perennials -- the bloom period is never long enough to suit us. Once the petals fade, remove the flowers to prevent the plant from wasting energy setting seed. Leave the foliage and stems in place to help rebuild the bulb's strength so it can bloom even bigger and better next year. |
