|When I brought my new Michelia Champaca home couple of months ago, it looked very nice. However, it started to lose leaves and looked quite sad. I moved it from a strong-wind location to under an overhang with filtered sun. The condition did not improve. Please help! I don't want to lose this tree or have to return it to the nursury - Regan Nursury in Fremont.

|Michelia can be slow to establish and slow to grow. Your tree needs to be watered regularly, especially during the spring and summer months. Afternoon shade (or filtered sun) will suit your Michelia just fine, and it will improve now that it's in a protected site. Try changing your watering schedule to provide about one-inch of water per week to the roots under the canopy of your tree. This should help provide adequate moisture for it to thrive. Best wishes with your Michelia!
