What is the proper procedure for germinating the cherry tree seeds I gathered last summer? |
Cherry seeds need a cold treatment (stratification) before they will germinate. You can sow them in the fall in the ground or in a cold frame and let winter temperatures provide the cold treatment naturally, or you can place them in a plastic bag filled with damp peat moss and store them in the refrigerator for 4 months. Then sow them in a greenhouse, cold frame or outdoors. You can store the seeds for up to a year in a cool, dry place before stratifying them. |
