Is the Fruit on the Japanese Blueberry Tree Edible, and do they have a large root system? |
The fruit on your Japanese Blueberry (Elaeocarpus) is ornamental, not edible. Birds sometimes eat the berries, but they're not considered edible by humans. The trees are not noted for exceptionally large root systems, but you can expect that the roots will spread out about one and one-half times as far and the dripline of the tree. (If your tree has and 20' canopy, expect the roots to extend out to about 30' from the trunk in all directions.) |
