This evergreen variety of southern magnolia is considered hardy to zone 7, or 0 to 10 degrees as the average maximum winter low. It should be planted in a sheltered location protected from wind, and where the soil is evenly moist yet well drained as well as acidic and somewhat rich. If you can meet the preferred growing conditions, it should grow well for you. Your local county extension and professional nursery personnel should be able to help you evaluate the microclimate and growing conditions in your yard to see if they are adequate for this tree. I hope so, it is a lovely tree.
