I have a bucket of spiny porpupine golf bell sized chestnuts. How do I remove the outer coating to get at the nuts? |
The American & Chinese Chestnuts are edible, but the Horse Chestnut is not. Confirm the identity of the tree before sampling its nuts! To harvest, collect the fallen chestnuts and spread them out to dry in a warm, dry area. Air drying usually takes a week or two. The outer husks will split and the nuts will drop out. If you plan to cook them, you don't need to dry them first. There's some great information on the internet from Michigan State University: http://www.msue.msu.edu/msu/im... |
