Crepe myrtle blooms on the new growth of the season, so any pruning is best done in late winter to early spring. The primary goal would be removal of any winter-damaged wood or crossing branches. After that, some gardeners prune for size control or to train the plant to a single stem like a tree. Keep in mind that this plant is slow to bud and leaf out in the spring so do not be too quick to prune thinking branches are dead.
