What can I do about squirrels digging holes in my lawn! |
Are you sure squirrels are digging holes? Lots of other wildlife dig holes in lawns. Raccoons will tear the lawn up in search of grubs. Moles and gophers dig from beneath the soil surface and leave a nice mound of soil next the hole they've created. If you're sure you're dealing with squirrels, they're probably digging holes to stash nuts, or to find your spring flowering bulbs. The most effective method for protecting flower bulbs and preventing digging in gardens is placing one inch mesh chicken wire over the bed before bulbs sprout in the spring. The flower shoots will easily find their way through the mesh. A number of commercial repellents are on the market which claim to repel squirrels from flower beds and lawns. They are available at hardware and garden stores. Good luck with your garden! |
