I bought a Monrovia Ebony Magic holly (Ilex x Ebony Magic). I was told that it has both male and female parts on the one plant. Is this possible or was I given inaccurate information? |
According to the Monrovia catalog listing, a pollenizer is required for fruit set on this holly. You might try one of the male "blue hollies" from the Meserveae group such as Blue Stallion. If you live in an urban or suburban area, there may already be a suitable plant growing in the general area so you would not need one of your own. You could wait and see what happens next summer if you think this may be the case. |
