| Hello - I have a Tasmanian Tree fern in a 24" pot. It is outside on my patio. When I searched your site, I only found your suggestion to build a frame and put burlap over the fronds. I am assuming that advice is for in-ground ferns, not ferns in pots. What should I do to protect a tree fern in a pot? I live in Seattle, where it can get in the 20s in winter. | The information you read was correct - follow the steps as listed to protect your tree fern. The only additional requirement for your containerized plant is to insulate the pot from freezing temperatures so the roots will survive the winter. You can provide protection by either digging a hole and burying the pot, or by placing the pot in an oversized pot and filling the space between the pots with styrofoam or other insulating material to protect the roots from freezing. |
