I am determined to grow banana shrub here in Portland, hopefully planted in my garden, but if I have to, container grown. I have come across different species: Figo, Fuscatga, Skinneriana, etc. I want the most fragant species possible. My question is, what species would be the best for my garden?
Thank you,
Sara Edelman

The hardiest banana is Musa basjoo, or Japanese Banana. The top will die down during severe winter weather, but new foliage will sprout from the roots in the spring. This plant will reach 15' in height and produce fragrant yellow flowers for your enjoyment.
