Can I Plant Today - Knowledgebase Question

i just bought a few mountain laurels and red twig dogwoods. can i plant them today? i live in nj the temp has been and will be around 45 degrees for the next month.

It is almost always better to plant -- even late -- in the fall rather than try to keep plants in containers over the winter. The roots will continue to grow until the soil becomes quite chilled, so this gives the plants a head start, too. The exception to this is if it is too muddy or the soil is too frozen to dig the holes. Good luck with your shrubs!
