| We purchased two Monrovia Dwarf Brush Cherry bushes this last summer. We placed them in large containers on the east-facing front porch with an overhang. The bushes did well until the last couple of weeks. One of the bushes dropped most of its leaves while the other bush has moderate leaf drop. Daytime temperatures are in the 50s to 60s. Nighttime temperatures have dropped to the low thirties but with no hard freezes. Could this problem be related to the colder nighttime temperatures or not enough light? Will the bushes recover their foliage if we take appropriate corrective actions? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your help. |
| Syzygium, Brush Cherry, grows best in full sunshine but will tolerate some afternoon shade. These plants are sensitive to colder temperatures and leaf drop is normal under these conditions. I suspect that your brush cherry shrubs are not getting enough full sunlight under the overhang on the east side of your house. Move them out into a sunnier location for best performance. Continue to water your shrubs as usual and new foliage should appear as soon as spring arrives and the nighttime temperatures warm up. |
