How can I train Distictis buccinatoria up a concrete column up to an overhead trellis? What would be the least obtrusive/obvious method of attaching the vine to the column?

Your Distictis is a fast-growing, dense vine, reaching 20'-30' in a single growing season. Because of its dense growth, almost anything you provide for support will be hidden by the foliage. One suggestion is to encircle your concrete column with chicken wire, using little blocks of wood to keep the wire an inch or two away from the column. If you pull the wire tight and attach it to itself, you won't leave any marks on the column. This method will also provide good air circulation for your vine, preventing moisture from collecting behind the plant and on the column. You'll be able to train the vines up the wire and attach them with some of the new velcro ties (conveniently colored green for garden use). Enjoy your trumpet vine!
