|I purchased your Blue Skies Lilac, Syringa Vulagaris Monore, 5 gal I think (it's about 4ft tall including container) and would like to keep it permanently in a pot.
Will the plant still flourish long term? How often would I have to move it into a larger pot?
|Your lilac will life quite comfortably in a pot. Lilacs tend to sucker so restricting the root growth will keep your shrub on the smaller side. You won't have to replant until you find roots growing out of the drainage holes. Even then, you can unpot, cut away an inch of roots all around the rootmass and then repot in the same pot using fresh soil. Or, you can leave the roots alone and repot in the next sized pot. Containerized plants need more frequent watering and fertilizing than those in the ground. Be sure to water as often as necessary to keep the potting soil from drying out. Fertilize during the growing season with a half-strength dilution of liquid fertilizer every 3-4 weeks. Enjoy!|
