I have been researching small patio trees/large shrubs in tree form, that can take full sun. Either deciduous or evergreen is fine. They will provide shade for our courtyard so a nice shape would be good. I'm hoping you can come up with some other ideas that I have not yet found. Thank you so much.

You didn't list what you'd already found, so I hope I don't duplicate your list! Here are some suggestions for patio trees:
Vine maple, Japanese maple, paperbark maple, Cercidium (Palo Verde), Chionanthus (fringe tree), Erythrina (coral tree), Dodonaea (hop bush), Cassia (gold medallion tree), Rhus (sumac), Pyrus (evergreen pear), and Albizia (silk tree). Slightly larger tree selections include Cercidiphyllum (katsura), Elaeagnus (Russian olive), Laburnum (goldenchain), Nyssa (sour gum), and Prunus (flowering cherry). Hope these suggestions are helpful!
