If the yellowing leaves are the older ones, it's a natural process. Your holly is simply dropping older leaves to make way for fresh, new foliage this spring. If the yellowing leaves are at the branch tips (newer leaves), it might be cause for concern. Too much or too little water, over- or under-fertilization, or damage to the roots from insects or disease might be causing a problem. For positive identification, take a sample of the problem to your local Cooperative Extension office (phone 209-525-6800) Friendly experts there can diagnose the problem and suggest remedies. Good luck with your holly!
