My Abelia grandiflora Sunrise shrubs will not stand upright on their own. They flop from side to side and end up tilted when planted from container. No strength at crown. Why?

The beauty of Abelia is in its graceful, arching branches. In fact, to keep the shrub's graceful form you must be careful when pruning - you could destroy the spreading, fanlike effect of the branches if you make the wrong cuts. Abelia is not an upright shrub and therefore the shoots will not grow straight up. Instead, expect it to eventually reach a height of about 8' with a 5' spread. Allow your new shrubs to become established in the landscape and they will develop into lovely fan-shaped shrubs.
