I have an area in my yard that is in the shade of a huge maple tree until about 2 P.M. (in the summer)--after which it gets the hot afternoon sun. Any shrubbery and /or other plant materials that would do well under these conditions? |
The site you describe sounds quite challenging for most plants. Between the shade, sun and roots from your maple, anything you plant will have to be fairly tough! Some rock garden plants thrive in dry, shallow soil, so let's concentrate on those. In your gardening region you can plant Cytisus (broom), Artemisia, Ceanothus (wild lilac), Rhus (sumac), Juniper, Lavender, Cotoneaster, Cape Plumbago, Nandina (heavenly bamboo, and Rosa Rugosa. Hope some of these suggestions work for you! |
