Gerbera jamesonii is an annual plant. You can start seeds at any time of the year if you plan to grow them indoors. Otherwise, start seeds inside 12 weeks before planting out. Press seed into surface of potting mix, but do not cover. Provide bottom heat (70-75?F), and light. Most seeds should germinate in 15-30 days, but they can be erratic. Transplant outside 1 week after last frost, into either a full sun or part shade location, planting about 12? apart. Provide shade if summers are very hot. Gerbera prefers a rich, moist, fertile, slightly acidic soil. Water and deadhead regularly. Best wishes with your gerbera! |
