|I have to pull my society garlic. The smell has really gotten to me. Do you know of a suitable replacement? I really love many of the characteristics of the society garlic (size, color, ease of maintenance), I just can't handle the smell! Thank you for your assistance!|
|Tulbaghia violacea (society garlic) does have a very distinctive garlicky smell, but looks lovely in a garden (from a distance!?) A suitable replacement might be Agapanthus. These plants have similarly shaped fleshy foliage and produce spherical shaped clusters of flowers on stalks high above the foliage. 'Queen Anne' produces a clump of foliage about 12" high and wide; 'Africanus' grows about 18" high and wide.
Hope this plant is more appealing!
