| Forest Flame Pieris develops beautiful brilliant red, then pink, then creamy white spring foliage and profuse drooping clusters of heavy, broad white blooms; the foliage matures to green. This shrub is an evergreen and prefers acidic soil. Plant yours in a partially sunny location. Forest Flame is a slow grower to 6 to 10 feet tall and half as wide. For best performance, follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Provide well drained soil, rich in organic matter, and feed with an acid fertilizer after bloom. Deer are not especially attracted to pieris, but it doesn't mean they won't test the plant by nibbling on it. A large population of deer visit my garden regularly but they've never bothered with the 4 pieris shrubs scattered around my landscape. Hope you have similar good luck with yours! |
