For years my mother has been attempting to find a shrub that grew wild in Ireland. The name of the shrub is Escallonia phillipina. Do you know if it is available in the states? If so, could you provide me with info on where I could purchase it? It would really mean a lot for my mother to have this shrub.

I found several varieties of Escallonia: exoniensis, macrantha, compacta, fradessii, and rubra. No phillipina. I searched for shrubs as well as seed, US and abroad. Is there any possibility it could be another variety of Escallonia? If you are interested in any of the varieties I have listed try the following websites: for exoniensis, Southern Perennial & Herb catalog, www.s-p-h.com/sections-n/search.cgi
for macrantha, Berrima Bridge Nurseries (Australia)
www1.tpgi.com.au/users/ncrowe/bbnl.htm
for compacta, fradessii, rubra
www.nybergnursery.com/plants.html#E

You might also contact Louisiana Nursery, Rt 7 Box 43, Opelousas, LA 70570, ph# 318-948-3696. They carry a huge selection of plants, including some Escallonia species, and may be able to help you.
Hope you find this helpful.
