|My peony looks healthy but the blooms seem too heavy and make the stems sag. Is this normal? Thank you|
|Peonies do produce some rather large, heavy blooms and, while the stems are usually strong enough to carry the weight, I usually stake or cage my peony plants. I like this extra safety measure because of the amount of rain that falls in my Seattle garden. Wet flower heads can get quite heavy! Tomato cages work fine and the peony foliage will usually disguise the cage. There are other plant supports on the market, and you can certainly use cedar or bamboo stakes to help support your peonies. Choose whatever material you think looks most natural in your own garden.
Enjoy those fabulous peony blooms!
