I have about 3" of shredded bark in my yard. When amending the soil how do I handle the bark? Do I remove it then amend the soil or do I dig it in with the amendments? |
Shredded bark makes an excellent mulch, but not a very good soil amendment. I'd rake most of it off the soil, amend your soil by adding compost, aged manure, shredded leaves, etc., and then rake the soil smooth. If you're planting, finish installing and watering your plants, then spread your shredded bark over the top of the soil. The shredded bark will stop soil erosion, suppress weeds and slow water evaporation. |
