|We have several maiden grass plants and have always cut them back to about 8" every spring. Is this the correct method? Should we cut them back? If so, during what season-fall or spring? Is cutting the grasses back to about 8" the correct length? Any help is appreciated.|
|I generally cut my Miscanthus sinensis (maiden grass) down to ground level in the spring. This removes all of the old foliage and makes room for new leaves. Try to cut yours down before new growth begins so you won't accidentally take new leaves with the old. (Cutting the plants back to 8" would leave some of the dead foliage attached and won't make for a very attractive clump of ornamental grass. Try cutting it all the way down to ground level in late-winter or very early spring.)|
Best wishes with your garden!
