Which juniper is the bluest? Blue arrow (J virginiana) or Skyrocket J. virginiana or J. scopulorum)? I live in zone 5 and am searching for the bluest and most columnar (conical OK if narrow)evergreen. Any special growing conditions for these in my area?

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help.

Blue Arrow and Skyrocket are pretty much equally blue. I'd say your choice comes down to the plant size you are looking for. Blue Arrow grows at a moderate to slow rate reaching 12 to 15 feet tall and just 2 feet wide. Skyrocket is a fast grower reaching 15 to 20 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.

Juniperus scopulorum 'Wichita Blue' is a grayish blue color.

All prefer full sun or close to it and well drained soil.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
