I live in Northern VA and I am looking for anything that can screen as much as possible of a two story cinderblock building on 35 feet of my property line that is heavily shaded. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks! |
It's difficult to find plants that will be happy growing in heavy shade. Red hollies (Ilex) will adapt to shady conditions, as will some bamboos. Phyllostachys rubromarginata or P. aurea (Golden Bamboo) are both great screening bamboo. The P. rubro is suited for colder areas and tolerates windy sites. It is the fastest growing species. Pieris japonica is another shade-tolerant shrub and grows 12-15' tall, with equal width. Hope one of these suggestions is just right for your landscape. |
