I have three large dogs, this winter after the grass had died back, and during some rainstorms, my dogs, just through normal play, tore up parts of the lawn, and it's now a muddy mess. I would like to know what grass would be the best to fill in these areas, and possibly spread to prevent this from happening again.

Julie,

Dogs are pretty hard on any turf or groundcovers. You will need to fence off the damaged areas for a while to give them time to recover. I would go back with whatever type of turf you have in the rest of the yard. If you are considering revamping the entire yard, you might find one of the zoysias to be a dependable, tough option.
