I recently bought a string of pearls and the pea shaped leaves are starting to dry up at the top of the plant. Am I watering it too much or is it not getting enough light? I have it inside facing the setting sun but shaded. Should I cut the dead parts off and try rooting the good parts. Thanks. |
Usually, browning at the soil line means overwatering. This plant should be watered thoroughly and then allowed to dry out (not bone dry all the way through but the soil surface should be dry, if you err, err on the dry side) before you water again. Senecio rowleyanus is also a plant that likes lots of light. It should be in a very bright location right up near the window facing south or west, no shade or sheers to block the light. Depending on how much damage has been done, it might be worth taking a few pieces and starting another plant. Just set the tip cuttings on the soil surface, water occasionally, and allow them to root. Or, set a container of soil next to the plant and drape a few tips over it so they touch the soil. I hope this helps. |
