I wonder if you planted Pratia? It's a small, ground-hugging plant with small purple flowers that's often used as a groundcover. If so, all you'll need to do is cut them off at the sidewalk's edge. The leaves and stems are so tender that you could cut them with a knife. To move the groundcover, cut it into small pieces (with a knife) and pry the pieces up, making sure you get the roots along with the tops. Replant and water them in well. The transplants may look puny for a few weeks, but once the roots are established they should rebound. Best wishes with your garden!
