What is a good screen shrub for a sunny/partial shaded area (at least6 hours filtered sun a day)? I am looking for the following characteristics: Something that grows tall but doesn't cast a lot of shade like my Lelands do-something that doesn't get much taller than 12 feet- don't want a lot of shade cast over my garden...quick grower, pleasant fragance, disease hardy. Is anise a good choice and if so, what is the proper way to encourage quick, healthy specimens?)

Jeanine,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question as we are transitioning to a new Q&A system. I hope this reply is not too late to be of help.

Florida anise may be okay for you as it reaches about 10 feet but you'll need to do some shearing to keep it dense as a screen plant. Another choice is Bright N Tight Carolina laurel (cherry laurel). It grows to 8 to 10 feet tall and makes a good screen.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
