Being a very busy woman who loves growing her own veggies, I am looking for a more efficent method of seed-sowing. I have seen a few products in a number of different catalogs that feature products that claim to make seed sowing easy and dependable. Do they work? I sowed some turnip seeds this fall and I had bunches of turnip seedlings sprout but then had to spend hours thinning them. I believe I suffered some loses as well. No major problems with the larger seeds but all in all, it is very time consuming. I spend the majority of time in enriching my soil, composting and organic pest controlling so I would dearly love a way to make seed-sowing easier and less time consuming, while helping to ensure a healthy, organic vegetable garden. I'm sure, like many veggie gardeners, I find small seeds to be the hardest to sow efficiently. Do these various seed-sowing products in the gardening catelogs REALLY work and if so, which ones are the best? I know there are some tips about adding sand to some small vegetable seeds but my backyard is FILLED with sand and I am spending a great amount of time and money to build up a raised garden to replenish the soil with rich organic matter, I don't WANT to add more sand! Are any of those gadgets advertized really worth the investment in order to make seed-sowing more efficient and easier?

Burpee has a Seed Sower on page 96 in the 1998 catalog that
should work very well. I have used a similar device with
good results, but I still have to do some thinning. There is a larger sower on page 99 that works very well with larger seeds. It sounds like you have a wonderful garden!
